ain't no mountain high enough

Baby, baby … where does the time go? I can’t believe Easter Sunday was over two weeks ago. Marlin and I drove up to our friend Suepa’s place in New Hampshire for a short weekend that included Easter brunch and an afternoon hike up the West Ridge Trail of Mt. Cardigan. It took us a little under 2 hours to hike to the summit. We started the hike about 3 hours after a brunch that included several mimosas and lots of delicious food. The weather was fairly clear and sunny, if a bit brisk once we got above the tree line and into the wind. There was still a lot of snow in the wooded areas, and I actually fell through the snow once and cut my leg on ice. Due to a fire in 1855, trees no longer grow on the top portion of the mountain, leaving it bald. Here are a few photos from the day. Lots of baldness. And a 14-piece panorama from the summit.

On Easter eve, we caught a showing of the documentary Standing In The Shadows of Motown. It’s the fascinating story of The Funk Brothers, the session musicians who played (mostly uncredited) on an incredible run of hits during the peak of Motown’s popularity. Interviews, photos, and archival footage are woven with performances from a reunion concert with The Funk Brothers backing singers like Joan Osbourne, Bootsy Collins, Ben Harper, Meshell Ndegeocello, and many others — including a Grammy-winning cover of "What’s Going On" with Chaka Khan. Terrific film. Terrific soundtrack. Certainly makes me think "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" would have been a huge hit no matter who was singing.

ron — i so very love the cropped version of the picture of your sunglasses with marlin & suepa in your lens, it’s got gorgeous color, and having the other lens with the reflection out of the picture it seems so much cooler. nice shot!

looks like you had a lovely hike.

    excellent!

Me: “Oh My God! I’m turning into Leather Egg!”

    Dave: “So? He’s really handsome.”

    Me: “!”

Dave: “What? Don’t you think he’s handsome?”

Me: “Well, yeah, but, am I only JUST becoming handsome?”
